Masaka Zone


Welcome to Masaka Zone

Across the equator, Katonga River and Lwera is the most beautiful and unique Zone called Masaka Zone, one of the six Zones of the Institute of the religious Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix- Ggogonya .

Masaka  Zone shares two dioceses; Kampala Archdiocese and Masaka Diocese. It is headed by the current Headmistress of St. Mary’s S.S  Nkozi, Sr. M. Florentina Ssanyu who has just taken over from Sr. M. Josephine Namata.

 The Leadership committee includes:

  • Sr. M. Florentina Ssanyu – Zone Leader

  • Sr. M. Veronica Nanyonjo – Assistant Zone Leader

  • Sr. M. Gorretti Nandaula – Treasurer

  • Sr. M .Teddy Nakyanzi – Secretary

 Masaka Zone is blessed with 5 Communities namely:

  • Nkozi Hospital convent/Community with 11 Sisters

  • Butende  convent/Community with 4 Sisters

  • Ssunga convent/Community with 3 Sisters

  • Kyansi Formation House with 3 Sisters and 12 Postulants

  • Buyoga convent/Community with 3 Sisters

 Convents in Masaka Zone basically offer education, Catechism, and health services. We serve God’s people through teaching and treating patients hence continuing Jesus’ ministry of healing.

 The following are some of the schools and health facilities:

  • St. Mary’s Senior School Nkozi- it is found near Nkozi Parish and Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi

  • St. Charles Lwanga Kabendera Primary School in Ssunga Luvule

  • Sisters at Butende convent offer teaching services at St. Gregory primary school Butende

  • Postulants in Kyansi offer teaching services to pupils at Kyansi and Catechism to Christians around

 We also offer health services in the following places:

  • Our Lady Health of the Sick – Nkozi Hospital  which is near Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi

  • St. Benedict Butende Health Centre 111 near Butende Parish

  • Archbishop Kiwanuka Health Centre 111 – Ssunga off Bukakata Road

  • St. Joana Maria Muzeyi Health Centre 111 Buyoga- near Buyoga Parish

Other Services:

  • Giving instructions to married couples at Butende Parish

  • Teaching catechism and reaching out to people in communities and schools at Buyoga

  • Going to Sub-Parishes with Priests on Sundays to pray with the community and visiting the sick at Nkozi Parish.

Zone Sustainability:

  • We have a plantation of passion fruits

  • We are planning to plant eucalyptus forest

  • We have a plan of raring pigs

 Year of the religious life:

Masaka Zone has planned to do the following activities during this year;

  • Visiting prisoners

  • Religious Instructions/catechism to  to children, mobilise and enpower school children, students and others to have good morals and good behaviors.

  • Visiting the sick and elderly and also take something for them.

 May the Holy Spirit and Mother Mary help us to be committed in fulfilling the above activities that the Lord’s Holy Name be glorified.
